Admissions
Admission to the Master of Arts program in Economics is offered for the fall and spring semesters, but please note that the bulk of financial aid is dedicated to fall admissions. Admission is possible on a full or part-time basis. Prospective students must have completed a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree, and have taken a minimum of 12 SH (or the equivalent) of economics, including intermediate macroeconomics, intermediate microeconomics, and statistics.
Admission to the Ph.D. program in Applied Economics is offered for the fall semester only. Admission is possible on a full or part-time basis. Students may apply to the Ph.D. degree program either from a Bachelor's degree or from a Master's degree.
There is no fixed minimum GPA or GRE score that leads to the automatic rejection of an applicant to either program, as the entire application is considered in each admissions decision. Neither is there a fixed minimum GPA or GRE score that leads to the automatic admission of an applicant, as the number and quality of applications in a given admissions cycle must be considered. That being said, students admitted to the Master's program generally have at least a B average and GRE scores in the range of 600-800 Quantitative and 4.0-6.0 Analytical. Students admitted to the Ph.D. program generally have at least a B+ average and GRE scores in the range of 650-800 Quantitative and 4.5-6.0 Analytical. Students offered financial aid score at the top of these ranges. The GRE Verbal score is not considered in the admissions decision.
