We are pleased to announce that L. Christina Steiger has accepted an assistant professor position in the Department of Economics. Prof. Steiger received her B.A. (with Honors) in Physics in 2001 from the University of Chicago, her Master's in Economics from the University of Oregon in 2005, and expects to receive her Ph.D. from the University of Oregon in Winter 2009. Prior to entering the Ph.D. Program at UO, Prof. Steiger taught geography, science and mathematics at a private high school in Mount Shasta, California, and was employed as an IT manager for BancCorp USA in Chicago. Prof. Steiger specializes in macroeconomics, growth and development, and econometrics. Her current research focuses on endogenous institutions in models of economic growth, and on the role of econometric learning in growth models.
The Department of Economics congratulates Maria Jose Luengo-Prado, who has been awarded tenure and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor of Economics effective July 1, 2008.

Maria Jose Luengo-Prado, Associate Professor of Economics, has been appointed Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston's New England Public Policy Center. The Center conducts and publishes research on a wide array of public policy issues, such as state and local public finance, economic development, housing and land use, health care, education, environmental economics, and regional economic conditions.
